Children’s Teeth Cleanings & Dental Exams
We like to see children at our dental office for their first pediatric dental appointment between 18 months – 2 years of age and every 6-12 months, thereafter.
At your child’s initial appointment, we will perform a low-stress visual examination followed by some ‘show & tell’ so they know what to expect at their next visit. At the first appointment, Dr. Haag will perform a visual exam using trans-illumination, a new light technology that allows for the diagnosis of cavities without any poking or prodding.
We also provide oral hygiene instruction to increase your child’s understanding on the importance of brushing and flossing. Finally, we give your child an opportunity to select a prize from our special prize bin!
For older children, we will provide oral hygiene instruction, perform a cleaning, any necessary X-rays, a visual exam and a fluoride treatment using our new and improved ‘paint-on’ technique. We generally like to see children every 6 months.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are generally placed on the 6 and 12 year molars to protect the grooved and pitted surfaces of the teeth, especially the chewing surfaces of back teeth where most cavities in children are found. Sealants are made of a white, BPA-free plastic and are applied to help prevent cavities. Savings can be gained by application of sealants, rather than allowing decay and requiring the tooth to be restored. Many insurance plans will help cover the cost of this conservative and preventive treatment.
